Ike Chuks is a British-born Nigerian UK Afro-beat singer, dancer who’s now making a name for himself among well-known artists in the industry.
From winning Britain’s Got Talent as part of dance group Diversity, to debuting with “Play Like Play”, which served as his first official afrobeat single; Ike Chuks has been rising fast on the world music scene. His first single was premiered and championed by DJ Edu on BBC 1Xtra, Afrohitsonthebeat on The BEAT 103.6 FM and DJ Neptizzle on Reprezent Radio.
Ike released his second afrobeat single “Go Low” in March 2016 followed by “I Dey Hail” featuring Nigerian hit maker Ycee in May 2016. From enjoying the massive play on Nigeria stations like BEAT FM and COOL 96.9 FM , Ike took his foray into the Nigerian market with his own version of Olamide’s “Who You Epp” following that with “Philomena” which is a cover for Drake, Wizkid and Kyla”s “One Dance”. Both tracks have become a staple on the UK scene with dancers across social media Expressing their talents to “Philomena”. With continued support from DJs and radio personalities across the U.K, Ike Chuks got invited to the infamous BBC 1Xtra UK Afrobeat Cypher which he absolutely smashed with his Igbo lyrics.
His fourth single “Man Down” has been a huge addition to his catalogue and shows the skill set as an indigenous rapper. The heavy thumping party jam is Produced by TwoSeven (who has worked Tinie Tempah, Wizkid and DJ Drama). “Man Down” which simply means doing something incredible causing a reaction of shock and astonishment amongst others. Ike comes in flowing heavily in his beloved in Igbo language.
Ike went on to release his 5th single “My Baby” has shown him in new light and displays his versatility as an artist. Ike Chuks says his latest single is inspired by real life experiences which gave life to the song. The music video was shot and directed by Unlimited LA in Lagos Nigeria. Produced by Swan Sounds, “My Baby” has seen support in the UK from BBC 1xtra with DJ Edu, TheBeatFM London and with massive support in Lagos from Beatfm, coolfm, soundcity radio, urban fm, cityfm and many more. Ike Chuks is starting to make a name for himself back home in Nigeria.
For his latest single, Ike Chuks teamed up with popular “Akube” crooner Dotman for this new infectious dance floor track titled “Do Proper”. The song is titled after a popular slang/phrase used in encouraging one to be their best at all times, however in this song Ike Chuks and Dotman asks a female being pursued to act appropriately and get with the program.
The song originally slated for a summer release but Monster City Records changed course when Ike shared a video of himself creating an infectious dance step to the song on social media. This video quickly caught on with fans instantly creating videos showing their best “Do Proper” dance moves across social media platforms.
The music video for “Do Proper” has been classed by NotJuskOK as one of the best Afrobeat music videos of 2017 thus far; as the lush clip featuring dancers bringing life doing the “Do Proper” dance moves, highlighted in the viral dance video.
Directed by Unlimited L.A, the music video for the monster hit demands replay; and crossed the 100,000 views mark on YouTube in barely 2 days. “Do Proper” is available on iTunes and all other digital music platforms.
Ike has performed at a number of music shows and events including Africa Pride Award 2016 at Cafe DE Paris, Olajide’s YBNL concert London, Beatfm Xmas concert alongside Migos, krept & Konan and Wstrn just to name a few.
2017 will be a very busy year for him as he is currently working on a number of projects including his own headline show and planning to release his EP.
